upon the first listen, the work of fernando unfolds directly on your brain and leaves a long lasting feeling of drama. fernando pulichino is one those lucky guys who can pick up any instrument and write songs without breaking a sweat. he first caught my attention with a remake of the bauhaus classic kick in the eye released on redux in 2008. he then backed up this great start with releases and remixes for labels like international feel, under the shade, internasjonal and nang. he also very busy touring as part of the 2020 soundsystem band and he is also in silver city with julian sanza.
we decided to put together a long player to highlight the talents of our man in buenos aires. the construction of *float* reveals an astonishing wealth of musical ideas, brazen touches of new wave and icy modern disco sounds are evident throughout. low slung basses are also a theme that runs right through *float* whether it is the opening song *a place* which has a monster electronic bottom end or *from out there* which sits firmly on the punk funk dinner table, bass lines are clearly important to fernando.

new single of the parisian trio on the franco-german label. the first track called dcl is a floating piece combining beautifull organ chords and breaking funky beats, setting on one hand a kind of religious scene and on the other hand giving the feeling to be a stream train at full speed! this is the track choosed by moritz piske, who did a jackin freaky remix out of it. got back is the other original track from the antislash. groovy baseline which reminds the remix they did for ribadisco on the salon records 02. avas verden put her voice with lyrics from her rockband lipstick, following the freaky acid lines. after their killer remix for tin man last year, we qre very happy to release this new project from antislash.

having released the anonymous and enormous f**k yonkers bootleg earlier this year, the amsterdam based audio culture label is poised to unleash their first official release, a piece of music which is the result of the collaborative efforts of dutch wunderkind presk and amsterdams premier tastemaker cinnaman. in part, pieter presk willems support is responsible for the labels inception. in a short space of time presk has built up a solid and impressively distinct sounding catalogue of work released on respected imprints such as ramp sister label fourth wave and doc daneekas ten thousand yen. making a name for himself with nothing more than his hands and impeccable taste, yuri cinnaman boselie has become somewhat of a musical institution in amsterdam. he is the man behind the ground breaking colors nights and is responsible for the equally forward thinking beat dimensions compilations. the b-side features two expertly remixed and uniquely different takes on the original, courtesy of non other than instra:mentals jon convex and ten thousand yen head honcho doc daneeka.

breaking onto the scene via a series of anonymous 12inch, it was after garnering reverence as a big name producer in disguise that cottam was unveiled to be the humble newcomer paul cottam. rising through the early rave scene in his hometown of preston, he first cut his teeth as a dj warming up for the likes of surgeon, dave clarke and regis. despite his techno upbringing, it was the slo-mo tempos of mark e and the revenge that inspired cottam to produce his own brand of dusty soul and hip hop-grounded house. however, in april cottam returned to his roots with >sunrise sunset< on use of weapons, sinking a rave core down to his signature slung bpm. it is a journey into sub-aquatic acid house that began with a series of remixes for luv jam, pattern select and morning factory, and one that he continues to explore on his aus music debut. aptly titled >deep deep down< sculpts the feeling of acid techno into warm slo-mo house. ukrainian producer vakula takes the track off on another tangent entirely, stripping away its propulsive chugging heartbeat and replacing it with an off-kilter, spaced-out pulse reminiscent of theo parrish when he s in that kind groove. on the flip, >twang< is a return to cottam s brand of languid, soulful house, steeped with groove destined to incite the dancefloor shuffle.

summer has all but gone as the darkness draws in, the clocks go back, and fina records releases something a little different for the night owls. cosmic dutch space cadets morning factory step up for fina 005 with a slow motion rhythm and tone ep. having previously appeared for yore records and brother from another mother 2020 vision, the guys have been busy in the windmill whittling a perfect autumn release. sultans of swing ep doesnt quite shadow dire straits but it certainly delivers. hypnotic title track of the same name is features futureproof basslines, layered with an enigmatic drowning echo-led synth while >lady< adds a different finish to the wax. here we find d angelo s 96 vocal hook effortlessly breaking through the shuffling punchy bass.

the notorious guillaume & the coutu dumonts makes a triumphant return to circus company after last year’s critically acclaimed album, breaking the fourth wall, with 3 deeper than deep (s)explosions sure to become omnipresent fixtures in the sets of damn near any dj with even a shred of good sense in the months to come. >ubiquitous gaze< gets the ball rolling in classic coutu dumont style with a rollicking sea of percussion thankfully populated with a few desert islands of respite in the form of a gorgeously lush string and piano arrangement and the soft meandering monologue of a certain well known musician discussing his craft. b side leader >youre the one< comes on strong with a bouncing d-town bassline and soft stabbing chords that would make kenny larkin proud before rolling out a high stepping lead organ and swinging vocal chops before tying the whole funky mess together with one of his trademark charging conga lines. known for his unbound generosity and proving it here once again, a beatless stringapella of >ubiquitous gaze< closes out the flip in fine style for those inclined to ride this one into a full epic journey territory. yet more proof, as if any were needed, of guillaumes place at the very top of the mountain called house

big support van oa. bas mooy, dvs1, perc, tommy four seven, go hiyama, paul mac and many more... just before the summer hits, were breaking it down with a massive techno bomb from the subs of scotland. this time its the mighty forward strategy group which will be responsible for some serious damage on the floor. the squad which delivered some amazing tunes for perc traxx and recently did a podcast for clr recordings are now up for a true banger on dynamic reflection. on this ep they split the force and bring both their own solo actions. smear takes over with >inert<, tweaking his synths into phased edges with a phat groove on top. the >retail & leisure< remix is more subdued and trips away with a smooth acid bassline through the track. on the b-side the other half of fsg. patrick walker smashes down the door with a more darker groove. pounding kickdrums, dark rhythms and smooth soundscapes is whats his recipe is for >phase linear<. this will definitely hit the big rooms!! boex & miller breaking down the beat in their rework, which makes the perfect balance for this ep. all n all a superior release by these gents and remix heavyweights. lets pray for more of this pure quality stuff and keep our eyes on the the future. the scene need more labels like this which reflects the current techno movement and promises loads more of that sweet stuff in days to come... dynamic reflection will represent only the true spirit of pure techno, they will put only the quality stuff back on the dancefloor!

fantastic and incredibly rare afro-disco album from 1978. originally released on the seminal french disco label barclay, this album seamlessly blends elements of african, afrobeat, funk and disco styles, with segments continually morphing and evolving into new tracks. irresistibly funky and percussive, this album’s drumming patterns and melodies grandually hypnotise the listener, with only outbreaks of african chanting breaking up the grooves. the b-side is effectively one long drum track broken down into 7 segments that never drop a beat. this album really takes the listener on a journey to africa, via 1978 new york, and is a real one of a kind. it’s also a samplers dream with no end of complex drum patterns and basslines to recycle.

fantastic limited reissue of this amazing self-titled afro-funk lp from ghanaian singing and percussion star sidiku buari. originally released in 1975, this super-rare album features an all-star cast of top funk instrumentalists playing alongside buari and boy does it show! blending heavy african rhythms with funky disco grooves, the arrangements and the playing are incredibly tight and the album is chock-full of killer tracks including advice from father (sampled by everyone from kenny dope to groove armada) and ku ka maria with its intense funky breaks and awesome drumming from legend bernard ‘pretty’ purdie, which made these tracks huge on the b-boy/breaking scene also. other stand-out tracks include the wonderful disco-tinged afro monsters karam bani and iro le pa plus the cool laidback groove of them yebtheget. top class!

for all the wonderfully subtle shell-breaking he did on his full-length, mark e falls back on old, slow habits for his new single, >the day<. and welcomely, we might add. pitching things down to a basement lounge floor crawl, the midlands dj/producer wraps his always chugging kicks and snares in serpentine synth-bass, jazzy, tripleted hi-hats, and moaning, wordless soul vocals. its grasp is tantric—hinting coyly at ecstatic release, but never fully delivering. for the vinyl junkies that bought stone breaker and missed out on it the first time around (it was absent from that version), this release should be a no brainer. but >the day< isnt carrying all the weight here. a new track called >special fx< will have sample hounds—particularly those with a thing for classic electro-pop—salivating. and the oft imitated, never replicated prins thomas shows up on the flip for a (naturally) eleven- minute revamp of >the day<, livening up the bass and drum patterns, adding in strings, piano, guitar, organ, and ending up with something that totally could have emanated from a camaro at some point in the early seventies. (albeit, one owned by someone with interest in eleven-minute instrumentals.) it even has a fade out!

>going on< from geeks & gaz is a deep 140bpm roller with rich synth swells and grainy disembodied vocals which lend a washed-out melancholy air, while a limber 2step house rhythm propels a truly transporting five minutes of eyes-closed burial-esque low end groove, making for a track that will hit equal targets on the dancefloor and in the headphones. daily delivers >untitled<, an old-school uk garage-inspired track which comes to life with a slow rising synth line underpinned by a sparse beat, before breaking brightly open into a scene of high pitched buzzing keys and some seriously complex percussive intricacies, rapid on the conga skins and hard down on the blunted kick drum. for further triple-win value, hype west london producer jack dixon offers a jaw-dropping refix of >going on<, massaging the original into a sensuously twisted uk funky / garage hybrid shape, introducing dramatic synth lines, hypnotic vocal stabs, and a hightened detail in the beat programming which somehow increases the tunes club-tooled precision while simultaneously enhancing its wistful and reflective mood.
